Fire Danger on the Moor

With the current extremely hot, dry weather we are enjoying, comes the increased risk of wildfire on the Moor. You will have seen the recent footage from Saddleworth Moor and we do not want the same situation on Ilkley Moor.

Many of you will be out and about on the Moor over the coming days and weeks and we would ask you to act as “firespotters”. If you see signs of smoke or fire on the Moor, please dial 999 straight away. At this time of year, there is no controlled burning so any smoke or fire will probably be wildfire. The sooner the emergency services can respond, the more chance of containing any fire there is.

Please also tell everybody that to avoid wildfire there must be no barbeques or campfires, and people must be very careful with cigarettes, matches and glass items.

Please keep your eyes open and help keep the Moor safe.
